Well, it is no longer rumours anymore after Star Trek: Discovery TV series actress Sonequa Martin-Green who plays the role of Captain Michael Burnham revealed recently that she was shocked once she found out the the fan favourite show was coming to an end.
After four good seasons of wondering the universe in the 32nd century, the Star Trek: Discovery crew will hand in their wings after the final season five, which will premiere in April 2024 on Paramount+, marking the end of the series.
The lead actor Sonequa Martin-Green confirmed the rumours were true and also said that the cast and crew “had no idea” that season 5 would be the end of the series while they were in production later this year, 25 months after the airing of Star Trek: Discovery season 4’s finale.
While appearing on stage at CCXP’s Paramount+ panel, Sonequa Martin-Green and Michelle Paradise revealed the shocking news while showing off a new action-packed clip from Star Trek: Discovery season 5 and sat down for a Q&A. As reported by Trek Brasilis (@trekbrasilis), Martin-Green says she and the cast and crew didn’t produce Star Trek: Discovery season 5 thinking it would be the end of the series.
“We had no idea it would be the last season when we were shooting. The team worked really hard afterwards to make the story culminate in an end to the entire series,” says Sonequa.
For those out there who loved this show, let’s hope Paramount has more interesting ideas to add to the board regarding the Star Trek universe and they will build onto the interesting plots they have in the line-up or come up with something fresh for the audience.
