Regarded by some as the Queen of UG music, Sheebah Karungi has built a reputation within the music industry and celebrity space at large and has been known for her musical prowess, stage presence, and captivating performances while winning many accolades and being a trendsetter on many occasions. But, despite her popularity, there a many things people might not know about her.

Having risen to recognition in the early 2000s, Sheebah has steadily grown into something that’s more than just an icon for the entertainment industry but also a beacon for inspiration and a voice for many and this has continued to be the case since on many occasions she has been asked to become an ambassador for brands and various other activities which only proves her influential power.

As a Ugandan musician, dancer and actress, these are the 10 things you probably didn’t know about Sheebah Karungi:

1. She was once part of a girl dance group called the Obsessions

Sheebah started her music career in the early 2000s when she joined a dance group called Stingers before later forming her band called Obsessions which was popular back then. However, her solo career finally took off after she quit the dance group which she had joined in 2006. From that moment on, her rise in the entertainment industry took a totally different turn making her the woman she is today.

2. Her song ‘Ice Cream’ put her into the spotlight

Queen Karma, as popularity known, rose to recognition upon releasing her hit single “Ice Cream” in 2014 right after quitting Obsessions, which enjoyed a lot of airplay on both radio and TV. The hit song even crossed beyond the Ugandan borders into the East African streets as a hit many fans will never forget.

3. Obsessions wasn’t her first group

Many don’t know and actually believe that Sheebah’s career started off when she was in Obsessions but the truth is, it wasn’t the case. The songstress started her music career in the early 2000s when she joined a dance group called Stingers before later forming her own band called Obsessions.

4. Six Studio Albums to Her Name

This shouldn’t come as a surprise for some, however, looking back at the Queen Karma’s music career, she has released six studio albums so far, including Ice Cream (2014), Nkwatako (2016), Karma Queen (2017), Omwooyo (2018), Samali (2021) and the most recent I Have a Dream (2022).

5. She has many awards under her belt

The TNS Queen has surely had a marvellous music career picking up a number of awards and accolades along the way. Her trophy cabinet right now must be out of room to keep more awards. Sheebah has won numerous awards including three HiPipo Music Awards, four Zzina Awards, one AFRIMMA Award, and one Afrima Award to mention but a few.

Her five-track Ice Cream EP, which did well commercially led her to win back-to-back HiPipo Music Awards Best Female Artist in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. She also won the Artist of the Year award twice, in 2017 and 2018, at the HiPipo Music Awards

6. An actress in the making

Surprised? You’re not the only one. Karungi has been in the movie business and she has featured in several Ugandan movies and TV series with her most notable performances being that of HASIFA and QUEEN OF KATWE. She is multi-talented and isn’t afraid to try different things out.

7. She is a philanthropist

She is known for her philanthropic work and often donates to charities that support girl education and women empowerment programs. She also started a company in 2020 that makes sanitary pads called Holic Pads with the aim of providing affordable pads to women and young girls alike in poverty-stricken areas of the country.

8. She has more than 6 popular hit songs

Given her talent in dance and her brave girl attitude, it’s no surprise that many of Sheebah’s songs and videos have gained lots of views online amassing more than a million. Some of her most popular songs include “Nakyuka”, “Ninda”, “Enyanda”, “Nkwatako”, “Wankona”, “Mummy Yo”, “Empeta”, “Onkutudde” and her first hit single “Ice Cream“.

9. Most devoted fan base the country has seen

If you have been a Sheebah fan for years and haven’t heard of the wild Sheebaholics fan group then you’re probably in a different country and planet altogether. Known to be one of the craziest fans in UG, the Sheebaholics don’t hold back when it comes to anything concerning Queen Karma which is no surprise that the songstress has a strong online presence with over 2 million Instagram followers, making her one of the most followed Ugandan musicians on social media.

10. Strong fashion sense

When it comes to fashion and being daring at rocking different outfits, Sheebah definitely doesn’t hold back one bit. She is known for her strong fashion sense which at times is bi-wilding at best. The star is regarded by some to be quite unique and trendy when it comes to hairstyles, especially coloured braids and wigs.
