The U.S. has been engulfed in protests for over four weeks now, with violence reported in some cities causing some states like Minnesota to deploy the National Guard after people took to the streets to demonstrate their frustration over the killing of George, an unarmed black man by a white police officer Derek Chauvin.
Chauvin, who kneeled on Floyd’s neck for more than five minutes, causing him to suffocate and die later, has been charged with his murder and suspended from the police force pending further investigations.
Several reports state thatGeroge’s family have accepted Mayweather’s offer to cover the funeral costs. Many people including a number of celebrities have taken the streets to protest for George. Some public figures have even used their platform to shed light on his story.
Floyd Mayweather offered to pay for the funeral services set to happen in Huston
Mayweather, 43, clearly stated that he will be willing to pay for the funeral services for George Floyd that are set to take place in his hometown, Houston – Minnesota and Charlotte.
Floyd’s family is looking forward to holding the fourth funeral for the deceased, which Mayweather has also offered to cover, according to Hollywood Unlocked.
CEO Jason Lee informed Hollywood Unlocked in a private conversation, that Mayweather was ‘distraught’ after learning that the former police officer Chauvin, was only getting a minimal charge for killing George — just third-degree murder and manslaughter.
The former World Champion told Jason that he was in a group chat with Anzel Jennings, the CEO of TMT music label, who shared that he actually grew up with George in Houston.
“He’ll probably get mad at me for saying that, but yes, he is definitely paying for the funeral,” Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, told ESPN.
“Floyd has done these kinds of things over the last 20 years.”
