Meaning of Jam

 

Slang, Noun, Verb Pronunciation: jam also jaa-mu

1. Traffic Jam. Slow moving or very heavy congestion where cars almost don’t move at all. Very common in Kampala in places such as Kampala road, Wandegeya traffic lights, Bukoto, Katwe, Queen’s Clock Tower, Mulago.

 

Example:

I was stuck in jam at Jinja road for over an hour.

 

 

2. To refuse. The act of refusing to do something or when something fails to work or do as you wanted.

 

Example:

Jona jam to give me the car mbu he’s using it today.

 

3. Zesta or marmalade. A very sweet processed fruit paste often packed in a metallic red and white tin applied to bread. It is usually accompanied with Blueband (Margarine).

 

Example:

I have to buy Tina red plum jam for her bread, she loves it with her breakfast before going to school in the morning.
