South Park Smashes the Streaming Charts with Season 27 Comeback

Guess who’s back, back again? South Park just dropped its Season 27 premiere on Paramount+, and let’s just say it’s a whole mood. The iconic animated show is owning the streaming charts, rocketing to the #1 spot on JustWatch’s U.S. TV streaming charts. How big was the comeback? It saw a wild +258% spike in streaming popularity compared to last season’s premiere. Talk about a glow-up!

The buzz was real, with viewers hitting play right after the episode landed. The Internet went crazy, and thanks to all that hype, South Park is now sitting pretty at the top, leaving new shows like Untamed and The Hunting Wives in the dust. Plus, it’s outshining nostalgic favourites like The Osbournes and the teen drama everybody’s talking about, The Summer I Turned Pretty.

And while we’re talking charts, the movie scene is getting a shake-up too. Happy Gilmore 2 just dethroned Sinners, ending its legendary run at #1. Plus, the horror flick Until Dawn made a killer debut, grabbing the #3 spot.

Bottom line? South Park’s still the GOAT—27 seasons deep and still breaking the internet. Who’s betting on another 27? 😏

The journey of South Park

Created by the iconic duo Trey Parker and Matt Stone, South Park is that legendary animated sitcom we all know and love. It all started with two short films called The Spirit of Christmas, which basically went viral before “going viral” was even a thing. That massive online buzz led to the show we have today.

The series centers on four boys—Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, and Kenny McCormick—as they get into all sorts of wild stuff in their fictional Colorado town. South Park is famous for its over-the-top, dark humor and no-holds-barred satire, tackling everything from pop culture to politics with its signature profanity and surreal storylines.

What’s cool is how the show is made, too. The pilot episode was created with old-school cutout animation, but the rest of the series uses a slick computer animation style that gives it that distinct cutout look. It’s a show that’s been around forever, but it’s still just as relevant and shocking as ever.
