Move over, sprint queens—Shida Leni is here to own the track! Uganda’s speed sensation just pulled off a legendary double, snatching two epic wins in two weeks and proving she’s not just a force to be reckoned with, but a full-blown track titan.
Considered as one of Uganda’s top female sprinters, Shida Leni managed to pull off a great feat this month, taking home two consecutive wins within two weeks – marking it as one of her best runs in her career.
The star athlete’s performance continues to grow with each passing year, and it seems Shida Leni’s target is beyond just home victories, but also the international stage too she has strongly competed for in the past 7 to 10 years of her career.
Latest Feat: PB Smashed at UAF National Trial! – 26th APRIL 2025 – 800m PB
At the 5th National Trial in Kampala’s Mandela National Stadium, Shida went toe-to-toe with 800m specialist Aciru Knight—and nearly stole the show! Clocking in at 2:04.4, she obliterated her previous PB (2:05.08) by over a second, finishing just a hair behind Knight (2:03.71).
But here’s the kicker—Shida isn’t even a 800m runner! She’s a 200m/400m beast, which makes this performance even more insane. Her powerhouse coaches, Kevin & Sue O’Connor, who have been training her since August 2013, dropped the truth bomb: Kevin, who observed the race and had this to say:
Knight is a talented athlete. But she specialises in 800m/1500m, while Shida is a 400m/200m runner. So for Shida to get so close to Aciru over 800m, is a great reflection on Leni.
We are building Shida’s over-distance/endurance abilities, by running her in some 800m races. In turn, this will improve her in her main distance of 400 metres.
Nairobi Showdown: 400m National Record ANNIHILATED! – 12th APRIL 2025
Just two weeks earlier, Shida lit up Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi at the Sprints Build-up & Trials for World Athletics Relays. After blazing through the semis in 52.14 sec, she came back three hours later and DROPPED A NUKE—winning the final in 51.25 sec, smashing her own Ugandan National Record (51.47 sec).
Coach Kevin’s reaction said it all, “the morning Semi Final must have tired Shida, which indicates that further improvement is possible.”
Shida Leni: From Schoolyard Star to National Icon
Shida Leni didn’t just wake up legendary—she earned it. Born and bred in Uganda, she dominated school races before turning pro under the O’Connors in 2013. Since then? Pure destruction. As a talented sprinter, she has made waves in the world of track and field with her explosive speed and determination.
Breakthrough and Major Achievements
Shida Leni’s rise to prominence came through her impressive performances in regional and international competitions. In that time, she has made substantial progress, breaking a number of records and taking trophies left and right. Within the last 7 years, Shida has amassed several victories that include:
