Some of the action movies that would have been released this year have been pushed forward to 2022, while others production has come to a standstill but there are still those that managed to slip through the cracks and find their way onto the big screen or the vast majority of streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime to mention but a few.

After a disastrous 2020 for the entertainment industry more so Hollywood, the audience has found itself spoilt for choice in 2021 as the year has been packed with lots of content. Below is our list of top 10 action movies you should watch right now;

10 Action Movies You Should Watch In 2021

1. Nobody

I know what you’re about to say, how does Bob Odenkirk from Better Call Saul turn into a badass hero that beats up a bunch of goons on a public bus and later leaves an entire army of gangsters bleeding to death in a factory. Well, it actually happened.

Nobody could be considered as one of the best action movies this year, as we get to see a 58-year-old dad go full John Wick in an instant. The movie which was written by Derek Kolstad (John Wick) is very exciting to watch. It offers the audience brutal, bone-breaking fight scenes with a pinch of salty humour. It’s a must-watch.

2. Wrath of Man

Exactly as the title reads, this movie is all about a man hell-bent on revenge and Jason Statham plays his role so well and decides to go after the men who killed his son in a heist gone wrong.

Directed by Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes, The Man From U.N.C.L.E.), Wrath of Man is fun to watch. The dialogue and story buildup are well done and intense. In my opinion, this could be one of Jason Statham’s best movies ever. If you haven’t watched this masterpiece yet, do so immediately.

3. Infinite

Mark Wahlberg has that unique touch that makes action flicks fun to watch. His sense of humour and ability to pull off multiple roles makes Infinite a must watch in 2021. The movie is about a man living with hallucinations who discovers that those hallucinations are actually visions from his past lives.

Infinite offers gorgeous car chase scenes, explosions and a take at what the future holds in advanced weaponry and tactics. The film stars Mark Wahlberg, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sophie Cookson, Dylan O’Brien, Rupert Friend, Jason Mantzoukas, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Tom Hughes, Wallis Day, Toby Jones, and Liz Carr.

4. Without Remorse

Without Remorse (also known as Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse) is an action thriller film based on the 1993 novel of the same name. It stars Michael B. Jordan who plays the role of an elite Navy SEAL, who goes on a path to avenge his wife’s murder only to find himself inside of a larger conspiracy.

Without Remorse is a good action movie that blends storytelling and character buildup together to bring the audience closer to the dark side of undercover government conspiracies and what it takes to survive the cruel world.

5. Fast & Furious 9

Vin Diesel returns for the ninth instalment of the high-speed-franchise Fast and Furious, and this time around the story follows Dominic Toretto et al, as they face off with Dominic’s brother, Jakob, played by John Cena who is a deadly assassin.

6. Army of the Dead

Zack Snyder returns to the world of zombie action bringing us his latest Army of the Dead to the big screen. Dave Bautista stars as the leader of a ragtag group of former soldiers who are tasked with breaking into the zombie-overrun city of Las Vegas to retrieve millions in a safe under the city.

7. Boss Level

If you love action-packed movies that revolve around insane time loops, then Boss Level has you covered. Starring Frank Grillo as the main actor, we get to see a former special forces agent do whatever it takes to save his ex-wife and son from death.

Aside from that, the movie itself packs some good action scenes including a weird sense of humour that offers a gaming-like experience. Boss Level brings an array of actors to the table from the likes of Mel Gibson, Naomi Watts, Annabelle Wallis, Ken Jeong, and Michelle Yeoh.

8. Godzilla Vs Kong

Who doesn’t love to see two legendary monsters go head to head in a fistfight while leaving a wake of destruction behind them? Godzilla vs Kong is exactly that, and even though the story may not be as good as some of the earlier adaptations we get to see some intense action scenes.

Well, apart from two monsters beating each other up, we see great actors like Millie Bobby Brown return to the screens alongside Alexander Skarsgård, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri, Eiza González, Julian Dennison, Kyle Chandler, and Demián Bichir.

9. Mortal Kombat

HBO Max and Warner Bros. decided to bring back a long-standing franchise of the video game series Mortal Kombat to the big screen but honestly speaking, it wasn’t that great. The movie follows the story of MMA fighter Cole Young, who is unaware of his heritage as he later realizes he is being hunted down by Sub Zero.

10. Sentinelle

Amazing actress, Olga Kurylenko plays the character of an opioid-addicted French soldier patrolling the waterfronts of Nice while seeking revenge for her sister after she’s brutally attacked and raped by a group of Russians.

Sentinelle may not have the best fight scenes but holds some good points when it comes to storytelling. When the action actually starts, it comes with purpose and real impact.
