One of Liverpool’s strongest forwards in history, Mohamed Salah will be parting ways with the English club come 2025 – the year his contract is expected to expire as his future at the team remains uncertain.
While there are no concrete indications that Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool, several factors point to the possibility of him leaving one of them being the lack of talks concerning his contract extension at the club. The club has not shown any signs that they are ready to extend his contract which means there is a high chance he might leave.
The second reason points to the departure of Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool’s manager, which only solidified the reports surrounding Salah’s future at the club given how the new manager seems to have a different direction for the team coming forward.
Thirdly, the interest shown by other clubs who want Mohamed Salah on their side has grown quickly with Saudi clubs such as Al-Ittihad or Al Hilal, rumoured to be interested in taking on the forward with Liverpool willing to sell him to avoid losing him for free in 2025.
If Mohamed Salah does not leave Liverpool, the club may look to sign a replacement, potentially targeting players like Leroy Sane, whose contract with Bayern Munich also expires in 2025.
Is there still a future for Mohamed Salah at Liverpool?
The Egyptian international has won three Premier League Golden Boot awards and two Player of the Year awards during his career at Liverpool in England. Salah also helped Liverpool secure their first top-flight title in over 30 years during the 2019/20 campaign, as well as the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, Super Cup, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Community Shield during his time on Merseyside.
Mohamed Salah is one of the world’s best and most prolific forwards and a serial winner with Liverpool FC since arriving at Anfield in the summer of 2017. He passed the 250-appearance and 150-goal marks – and entered the top 10 of the club’s all-time leading scorers list – during a 2021-22 season in which he lifted the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, and helped his team reach the third Champions League final of his Liverpool career and finish second in the Premier League.
The rumours of Salah’s possibility of leaving Liverpool came to light during the 2023 summer transfer window when Saudi Pro League representatives were desperate to bring him to the Middle East. On the Premier League’s transfer deadline day, Saudi Arabian champions Al-Ittihad submitted a £150m offer to sign Salah, which Liverpool swiftly rejected.
The forward’s future at the club is still uncertain and we can only wait and see how things evolve in the coming years as his contract nears expiration. Mohamed Salah reached the milestone of 300 goal contributions for Liverpool in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town.
