The Uganda U17 Girls team was able to progress to the next round of the FIFA World Cup 2020 qualification following a 5-1 aggregate victory over Ethiopia.
The Uganda U17 Girls team has done a remarkable job progressing through the competitive games in these past weeks, with them leading 2-0 from the first leg.
The U17 team under Ayub Khalifa sealed their victory on Sunday after they beat Ethiopia 3-1 in Addis Ababa. Their team captain Juliet Nalukenge scored twice while Margaret Kunihira netted the other.1
Ethiopia were able to get a consolation goal from Alegash Kalsa later in the game but it wasn’t enough to win against Uganda’s U17 girls team that put on an amazing performance.
Ethiopia’s U17 team in the first half of the game were dominating the defence, guarding against all possible attacks from Uganda’s U17 girls team which ended it goalless. However, in the second half, later in the 55th minute, Kunihira was first score with Ethiopia drawing moments later with Kalsa’s goal.
It was moments later after Nalukenge displayed remarkable skills on the pitch scoring two goals to ensure Uganda’s victory in what seemed like a tight locked game.

Following the victory over Ethiopia, Uganda now progresses to the first round of qualification where they will face Tanzania. Tanzania eliminated Burundi 6-1 on aggregate to reach the first round.
If the team beats Tanzania, they will face either Cameroon or Sao Tome, which will be playing against each other soon to take the spot for the World Cup finals in India later this year.
Uganda’s Starting team against Ethiopia on Sunday will include Daphine Nyayenga (GK), Samalie Nakachwa, Sumayah Komuntale, Bira Nadunga, Stella Musubika, Kevin Nakachwa, Margret Kunihira, Shakira Nyinagahirwa, Juliet Nalukenge, Hadija Nandago & Fauzia Najjemba.
