Is There A Future For Idris Elba As James Bond?

As people took to the online streets to campaign for a black James Bond, Idris Elba came up as the most desired pick to play the secret agent role though there have been some shocking revelations concerning the next 007.

For those who have been fans of the James Bond 007 franchise, the role of the lead actor has always been played by a white male something the audience had grown accustomed to until the recent rise in the woke culture which has called upon Hollywood to cater to the sensibilities of the masses regarding people of colour and diversity.

However, despite the growing rumours and reports online citing Idris Elba as the potential next James Bond with the possibility of seeing a person of colour reprise the agent 007 acting role, it turns out Elba has other things on his mind.

As painful as it may seem for some, Idris Elba won’t be playing our favourite Bond spy. The franchise producers responded recently letting everyone know that Elba wasn’t really interested in the role, despite public outcry for him to play 007.

“I don’t think that playing Bond will satisfy some of my personal goals,” he said during an episode of HBO’s “The Shop.” He added, “It will definitely satisfy the will of a nation, I’m not going to lie.”

The actor also pointed out how everywhere he went people kept mentioning Bond, calling upon him to take on the role. “And I feel it is beyond me at this juncture.” Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson talked to Variety about the popular franchise and Elba.

What do producers of James Bond say about Idris Elba?

“We love Idris,” Broccoli said. “The thing is, it’s going to be a couple of years off,” she added. “And when we cast Bond, it’s a 10, 12-year commitment. So he’s probably thinking, ‘Do I really want that thing? Not everybody wants to do that. It was hard enough getting [Daniel Craig to do it].”

“And he was in his early 30s at the time!” Wilson added.

Well, despite the public outcry, it turns out we may not to get see Elba as James Bond any time soon but you never know. He might have a change of heart somewhere along the way or someone else could grab it. Only time will tell.

Meanwhile, reports are floating around that the next James Bond could be a woman with Lashana Lynch being mentioned several times as the potential lead for the role if it comes to it. Idris Elba and Henry Cavill may not take the role since the next Bond must be younger than 40 and over 5 ft 10 based on the restrictions.
