Ruby Rose, who plays as Kate Kane in Batwoman TV series on The CW is leaving after wrapping up the 2019-2020 season one with casting for a new lead actress already on the way.

News of Ruby’s departure came to light days after the season one finale of Batwoman aired, though it doesn’t mean it will be the end of the TV series entirely.

According to reports by THR (The Hollywood Reporter) Warner Bros. TV, which produces the series, has decided to recast the role for another Batwoman though no particular star has been named yet.

Ruby Rose released a statement on Tuesday that informed everyone about her departure from Batwoman series which read;

“I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season,” Rose said in a statement “This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles.”

There have been reports that Ruby may have left because of a stunt injury she suffered during the filming of the show’s first season, which required emergency surgery and could have left her paralyzed. However, it seems it’s not the reason behind her leaving.

Thank you, Peter Roth and Mark Pedowitz and the teams at Warner Bros. and The CW who put so much into the show and always believed in me. Thank you to everyone who made season one a success — I am truly grateful.”

Ruby Rose has made the surprising decision to exit The CW’s “Batwoman” television series, forcing the network to recast the role for the next seasons.

In 2019, Batwoman became the first show to have a lesbian superhero starring in her own TV series, although Ruby Rose had previously appeared as Kate Kane in the Arrowverse’s crossover titled, “Elseworlds” between Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl.

Though her departure doesn’t mean the end of the show, The CW, Warner Bros. TV, and Berlanti Productions, the companies behind it are moving forward and hope to cast a new lead actor for the show.

The two companies also commented on the departure of Ruby Rose in a joint statement, which said; “Warner Bros. Television, The CW and Berlanti Productions thank Ruby for her contributions to the success of our first season and wish her all the best.

The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.”

The second season of Batwoman is still a long way off due to production delays and may return early 2021, though the details are still sketchy. Meanwhile, an annual multi-show for the Arrowverse crossover had already been announced with possibly only Batwoman and the upcoming Superman & Lois coming together for a two-parter.
