As the year comes to an end, Uganda made some impressive gains on Spotify with some of UG’s best music artist’s coming out at the top of this year’s Wrapped 2022 compilation stats which is a clear signal that music streaming platforms are steadily becoming a norm for listeners.
Spotify today announced the arrival of Wrapped 2022, its yearly look back at what songs, artists, albums and playlists people listened to throughout the year that made it to the top 10 list.
This year around, according to Spotify’s Wrapped 2022, a few Ugandan music artists managed to top the most streamed category showcasing some of the usual mainstream artists and also surprisingly adding a few new ones to the board. Of course, when it comes to the top most streamed music artists in Uganda, sadly none of ours made it to the list.
Well, let’s get straight into it. So, what songs kept Ugandans going throughout this year? Is Drake reigning supreme this year again or has he been overtaken by another artist? And when it comes to homegrown acts, who is leading the pack? Below, is a breakdown of what Ugandans streamed the most this year:
- Burna Boy has moved up two spots since last year, to become the most streamed artist in Uganda. Last year’s top artist Drake, is second this year, with Fireboy DML coming in third
- Pheelz’s collabo with BNXN fka Buju on Finesse is the most streamed song in Uganda. Unlike its name, Last Last by Burna Boy is not coming in last, the hit track takes up the second spot in Uganda. Rema’s Calm Down, is third with Oxlade’s KU LO SA – A COLORS SHOW in fourth place.
- Local music consumption is showing no signs of slowing down, registering a 294% year-on-year increase from 2022, an encouraging figure that shows that Ugandans are streaming almost three times as much Ugandan music in 2022, as they did last year
- The top streamed local artist honour goes to Azawi, who has moved up one spot this year. Fik Fameica is the second most streamed local artist. AeHil is third, followed by Winnie Nwagi. Vinka closes off the female-dominated top five
Ugandans love a good party, so it’s no surprise that the day when they stream the most music is Saturday, followed by Friday, according to the latest Spotify Wrapped data. What hour of the day do Ugandans stream the most music on Spotify? That would be 12 pm, right in the middle of the day, then again at 6 pm. Meanwhile, African Heat is the most streamed playlist in Uganda.
