One of the biggest exports out of West Africa, Ayra Starr is facing a lot of backlash from fans online for wearing a provocative and revealing outfit at a recent concert performance.
The 19 & Dangerous star has been getting lots of attention from fans over her outfit choice at the Meta concert, which was held in Lagos on November 24 2022. The Nigerian singer, who was one of the performers of the night, wore a short skirt with a small revealing top and her signature high boots.
The skimpy outfit attracted lots of media attention which sparked outrage on social media with many saying that it barely covered her body. While some fans celebrated her choice of style, others felt it wasn’t appropriate at all and that she could have done better.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time the 20-year-old artist has been under fire for her signature dressing style. She faced several negative reactions from fans and social media users worldwide after sharing a picture of the skimpy outfit on Twitter, with the caption, “The audacity!”.
In this day and age, where we often listen to and watch music videos that glorify sexuality and even go as far as to showcase adult-themed content all in the name of winning fame and attention. The online beef Ayar Starr is receiving could be seen as hypocritical in nature but yet again, many don’t just see her as just a musician but as a young 20-year-old who is expected to uphold a certain respect towards herself and it is probably why some have taken offence.
One of the fans had this to say about Ayar’s skimpy outfit: “Ayra Starr ur indecent dressing is truly sickening; Fans be hyping ur indecency but this isn’t fashion. U are objectifying yourself & craving the wrong attention. That said, work on your stage performance, honestly speaking it’s not that electrifying to watch. Be more creative.”

Ayra Starr facing heat online for putting on a skimpy outfit
Despite the varying opinions on whether Ayar Starr’s outfit was good or not, the singer refused to bow to the pressure and responded back with an interesting apology to fans. Ayra released a voice recording on Twitter with the caption “I apologize, oh nooo, oh, wow, I’d do it again, I’d never wear short skirts again [laughs]”.
She also followed it up with a snippet of her piping hit single, ‘Rush’ singing: “me no get the time for the hate and the bad energy, got my mind on my money, make e dance like Poco Lee, steady green like broccoli.”
The celestial being, as she calls herself, then caps it up by asking that fans go and stream Mavin’s recent release, ‘Won Da Mo’.
