George Michael, a very famous British pop music artist and writer who sold of millions of albums as a member of the duo Wham! and on his own, passed away at his home aged 53 years in Oxfordshire yesterday (25th December, 2016).
George Michael was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou in East Finchley, London, on June 25, 1963, the son of a Greek Cypriot restaurateur and an English dancer. He would later form the band “The Executive” which flopped and they made the duo “Wham!” with his school mate Andrew Ridgeley.
George’s publicist says that George passed away peacefully at his home. His manager Michael Lippman said that he died due to heart failure in his bed.
Thames Valley police said an ambulance had attended a house on 25 December in Goring, Oxfordshire, at 1.42pm. They said the death was being treated as “unexplained but not suspicious” and they would not comment further until after a postmortem.
George Michael has had several brushes with the law, most famous was when he was arrested in a public bar bathroom and came out later about being a homosexual as well as bisexual. He made a song making fun of the arrest which topped No. 2 in the UK charts
He also had a lot of driving arrests and was banned twice from driving, he would later apologise for shaming and making life difficult for other gay people whom he lent his musical voice to support a lot as well as the AIDS causes.
Michael has suffered a lot of near death brushes pneumonia in 2011 and in May 2013 he was airlifted to hospital with a head injury after falling from his vehicle on the M1.
He had many successful hits like Cowboys and Angels, Mother’s Pride and Praying for Time and outsold Faith in the UK, where it went platinum four times.
However it led to a court case with US record label Sony spurred by Michael’s frustration at how the album was marketed. Michael lost the case and probably that was the start of his wars.
Michael’s 1990 album Listen Without Prejudice Vol 1 had been set to be reissued, along with a new film featuring Stevie Wonder, John and the supermodels who starred in the video to his hit single Freedom! 90.
