Seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, Lionel Messi is off to a great start as he sealed yet another historic win at his debut match with Inter Miami in the US giving David Beckham’s side a strong kick-off.
Playing in front of a star-studded crowd, Messi didn’t waste any chances as he sealed the win in injury time sending an incredible set-piece into the back of the net to close the game 2-1 against Cruz Azul. The stadium had celebs like LeBron James, Serena Williams and many more watching the star from the sidelines eager to see what the former Barcelona and Paris St-Germain star has in store.
After supporting his team lift the World Cup trophy seven months ago, Messi has been on excellent form sending the crowds flying in excitement with his energetic play and team spirit. And now he is at it again after leaving PSG to join the American side of Inter Miami.
Soon after Robert Taylor’s amazing opening goal was cancelled out by Uriel Antuna, the 36-year-old grabbed the opportunity to strike an ear deafening goal right into the net sending the entire DRV PNK Stadium into excitement to seal an unforgettable 2-1 Leagues Cup win.
“What I saw was the goal,” Messi said in an on-field interview amid the post-game celebrations. “I saw the goal. I knew that I had to score. It was the last play of the game and I wanted to score so I didn’t go to penalties.”
Inter Miami head coach Tata Martino, who managed Messi at Barcelona, said: “It’s a movie that we have seen before.”
The game, which was watched by many online, has gathered a lot of media interest across the globe as Messi starts his new career at Inter Miami with a flying start.
