As Man City continues its dominant run in the Premier League, the club is not wasting any chances and is already in open talks with its star Erling Haaland over a new contract that could see the player stay a little longer at the City side.
Sources revealed to Football Insider that Man City was eager to reward the Norwegian player for his exceptional form and play during the season and the club doesn’t want to let anything slip by them. The 22-year-old has surely made a name for himself this season, positively contributing to a number of games that have seen Man City rise up in the league standings.
Erling Haaland’s current contract runs until 2027, but Manchester City sees a bright future ahead which is why they want to lock the deal down as soon as possible for another two years before any other club gets ideas. Haaland’s current contract initially included a release clause worth £150 million that was supposed to become active in 2024.
However, the contract release close was removed after Man City’s Pep Guardiola signed a two-year contract extension with City in November 2022, utilising the £51 million release clause in Haaland’s Borussia Dortmund contract to bring him to the Etihad Stadium last summer.
It’s a clear sign that the Premier League champions are thinking about a foreseeable future with Haaland and want to make sure no other clubs can take advantage of a similar clause. It is also reported that the Norwegian player is very happy at Man City and has made it clear that he is open to negotiating a new deal.
Erling Haaland recently surpassed Mohamed Salah’s record for most Premier League goals scored in a single 38-game season last Wednesday after his team beat Arsenal 4-1. Haaland currently tops the scoring charts with 34 league goals in 32 games and he has scored 49 in all competitions for Manchester City in 2022/23.
