Netflix’s Red Notice could possibly get a part 2 & 3 according to director Rawson Marshall Thurber, who also hints at the idea as likely being shot back-to-back if given a go-ahead.
Red Notice just debuted on Netflix, earning the title of biggest opening day for the streamer, amassing a total viewing time of 148 million hours to date. Director Rawson Marshall Thurber says that part 2 and part 3 are a real possibility and would likely shoot back-to-back.
Red Notice, which was written and directed by Thurber is an action-comedy film that stars Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot. The story follows an FBI agent played by Dwayne who reluctantly teams up with a renowned art thief in order to catch an even more notorious criminal.
According to Screen Rant, Thurber began his Hollywood career with the hit comedy Dodgeball, starring Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller and later jumped onto We’re The Millers, starring Jason Sudeikis and Jennifer Aniston. He then worked on Central Intelligence, which had Dwayne Johnson co-starring Kevin Hart.
He followed that up with Dwayne Johnson’s Skyscraper, and now, the Netflix hit Red Notice. He’s next slated to take on the Tom Clancy thriller, The Division, with Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain.
Given his success so far, the director was very optimistic about the Red Notice getting sequels while talking to THR. Thurber thinks there’s a real possibility of it happening with both two and three being shot back-to-back.
“If we were to make a sequel, the only responsible thing would be to make two and three back-to-back. It’s such a big production, and if you can mount it one time, it will be better for everyone. Including for my mental health,” Thurber said in a statement.
The Red Notice sequels may be a real possibility says, director Rawson Marshall Thurber
The chances of Red Notice getting sequels may be possible but we have to put into consideration the busy schedule for all actors.
Johnson is gearing up for Black Adam next year while preparing to star in Red One for Amazon. We also have to think about Reynolds, who plans to take a break from acting after he’s done with The Adam Project and Spirited.
Meanwhile, Gadot is currently filming the spy thriller Heart of Stone and has two other projects which include the likes of Cleopatra and Wonder Woman 3. She’s also set to play the Evil Queen in the live-action adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs for Disney.
Even though the critic reviews Red Notice has so far received aren’t that great, they have made the movie quite popular, pushing it to the Netflix top charts, which may in return lead to the idea of two sequels as suggested by the director.
One should also note that Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction and Charlize Theron’s The Old Guard, amongst others, are getting sequels on Netflix, which means the possibility of Red Notice joining the clubs isn’t far-fetched.
