Vin Diesel recently hinted at Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson making a return to the Fast & Furious franchise for the upcoming Fast & Furious 10.
According to CBR, Vin Diesel posted an image of himself and Johnson in Fast & Furious 6 on Instagram, saying “Blessed to be a part of so many iconic moments in film… I don’t reflect on them as much as I should. Maybe because I am too excited for what’s coming. Haha. All love.”
Johnson later responded to the post, writing “Great shot brother!! We had fun and created some insanely iconic moments I’ll always be grateful for. Helluva triceps flex too.”
A year ago, things weren’t looking so good between Johnson and Diesel, as the two had a long-standing beef after both had some disagreements during production on The Fate of the Furious. Their fallout was well-publicized and received a lot of media attention.
At one point, Johnson threw shade and jabs at Diesel on social media and after that, it was later confirmed that Johnson would not return for the Fast & Furious 9 movie but was instead starring in his own spinoff film, 2019’s Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.
However, according to CBR, Johnson has since ended his feud with Diesel by thanking him for both his personal and professional support on Instagram, before hinting at his return to the central Fast & Furious movies.
In October 2020, it was reported Universal plans to end the main Fast & Furious franchise with two more films following the debut of Fast & Furious 9, aka F9. For now, though, it’s unclear which cast members will be coming back for Fast & Furious 10 and 11.
Vin Diesel teases Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s return to the Fast & Furious franchise
Aside from Dwayne’s return to the franchise, another Hobbs & Shaw sequel has been confirmed and is currently in development. According to Johnson, “We are developing now the next film, the next [Hobbs & Shaw] movie, and I’m pretty excited about it. We just gotta figure out the creative [team] right now, and the direction we’re going to go.”
The synopsis for Fast & Furious 9 reads,
No matter how fast you are, no one outruns their past.
Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena, next year’s The Suicide Squad).
F9 sees the return of Justin Lin as director, who helmed the third, fourth, fifth and sixth chapters of the series when it transformed into a global blockbuster. The action hurtles around the globe—from London to Tokyo, from Central America to Edinburgh, and from a secret bunker in Azerbaijan to the teeming streets of Tblisi.
Along the way, old friends will be resurrected, old foes will return, history will be rewritten, and the true meaning of family will be tested like never before.
Directed by Justin Lin, F9 stars Vin Diesel, John Cena, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel and Sung Kang, with Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron and Cardi B. The film arrives in theatres on May 28, 2021.
