Dre Cali Could Pay Up to 82M Due to Breach of Contract

Dre Cali, who is currently signed with Mpaka Records is facing charges over breach of contract and has been summoned to court by his former management Wyse Technologies Limited.

According to Blizz Ug, Dre Cali, real names Katende Andrew Stephen is facing serious charges for breach of contract from his previous music management company, Wyse Technologies Limited which states that the music artist owes them 82 million shillings.

Wyse Technologies Limited claims that on March 27, 2018, they signed the singer formerly known as Drey 23 for a 5 year contract ending on 27th, March, 2023 but the music artist breached the contract before reaching term.

Based on the reports presented by Dre Cali’s former management, the raising star breached his contract after only five months into it. The company also states that the music artist often missed management meetings and went as far as to perform at shows, record songs and shoot music videos without their knowledge.

It also said that Dre Cali went ahead to sign a new contract with Mpaka Records, a record label under Ykee Benda without sorting out his misunderstandings with the previous management and now they want compensation worth 82 million shillings from the singer.

“Ultimately, he went ahead to sign a new contract with Mpaka Records still without aligning previous misunderstandings, even when there was enough for termination of the contract. Despite his violation and with full knowledge of the breach, he went ahead to purportedly terminate the agreement by the way of email on July 14, 2019,” the statement from WYSE read.

Dre Cali in a world of hurt as he faces charges for breach of contract from previous management

After terminating the contract, Cali was served a notice of intention to sue by Wyse but it is reported that he ignored it and now he is being dragged to court.

“We accuse him of breach of contract. So he is liable for general damages arising from breach of contract, special damages (audio and video production, media tours, promotions, transport, and other related costs), and cost of the suit,” the statement read.

However, reports state that at the beginning of December 2021, Dre Cali through his lawyers of Wesley & Co. Advocates filed his defense pleading not guilty of any of the accusations but now his former management is demanding for damages arising from the breach of the contract worth 81 million.

Cali either pays the fees or faces the court, which will have to decide his fate.

“We ask the court to rule this matter in our favor and be awarded the following a). Compensation of UGX 81,820,000 (eighty million, eight hundred and twenty thousand Uganda shillings) for the gross breach of the contract. b). Legal costs,” the statement from Wyse Technologies Limited read.
