Kanye West Gets Suspended from Instagram for Calling Trevor Noah ‘Anti-black’

Kanye West found himself again in the crosshairs of the media bubble after he was suspended from Instagram for 24 hours for using a racial slur against Daily Show host Trevor Noah.

According to various media outlets, Trevor Noah was a victim of hate speech and the actions taken against Kanye by the social media platform Instagram was warranted.

The reason why Kanye made the comment he made was in response to Trevor’s views on Tuesday’s episode of The Daily Show, where the host spoke about West and Kardashian’s highly-publicized divorce battle and asked society to change the way they are reacting to the situation.

Trevor also expressed concern about the possibility of the feud between the former couple turning violent in the future and stated that Kim was being harassed by her former husband, despite being one of the “most powerful” women in the world.

Kanye didn’t take the comments very well and decided to respond back to the Daily Show host on Instagram using what has been defined as a “racially offensive” term to describe the comedian. Kanye changed the lyrics of Riverside Gospel Group’s Kumbaya, My Lord song and used it as a caption to share a screenshot about Noah’s bio on Google.

Instead of Kumbaya, the Donda creator used “Koon Baya,” referring to Noah as a “koon” in the process. The statement which has been long deleted read: “All in together now… Koon baya my lord koon baya Koon baya my lord Koon baya Ooo lord Koon baya.”

Kanye West’s comments towards Trevor Noah were considered hate speech and racial in nature but were they really?

The term ‘koon’ is used to define a black individual who is anti-black and often acts against the black community. The Urban Dictionary regards the word, ‘koon’ as a “disparaging term” used to refer to a black individual or any person of African descent.

Basically, Kanye called Trevor a sell-out for his comments and views regarding his divorce situation with Kim Kardashian. In whatever angle you may look at it, the situation was blown out of proportion which proves the fact of media bias and driven controversies.

The question is though, did the actions of the rapper require a suspension from Instagram, and does this mean that whenever two black celebrities go at each other and end up using words like “nigga” in their statements it will be considered hate speech or racial slur from now on?

Or is it because a certain group of people feel bad that they can’t be allowed to publicly use certain words against other races of people who they have oppressed so long and when they see fellow black people use them openly amongst themselves, they feel offended by it. Maybe we are just over-reaching and it’s not the case.

Regardless, Noah’s view’s towards the ongoing divorce feud between the two celebs held some positive concerns. Based on the statements he made during the Tuesday episode about the entire matter included:

“We don’t know how to worry. I think Kanye doesn’t seem to understand that. He goes, well, ‘leave me to create my art.’ Yeah but Kanye, you told us you have problems. Now when we worry about that, you say we shouldn’t worry because it’s not problems. Or it is problems? Which is it?”

“What’s weird about the situation is Kanye West has told us that he struggles with his mental health. So I get it, you wanna have art as therapy. But here’s what’s weird that Kanye doesn’t understand. It’s like, what we’re seeing is—it makes you uncomfortable, man.”

Noah noted that while some people might see West and Kardashian’s situation as a “marketing stunt” to promote the latter’s upcoming Hulu show, it is a fact that the reality star is being “harassed” by her former husband:

“Two things can be true. Kim likes publicity. Kim is also being harassed. “What she is going through is terrifying to watch, and it shines a spotlight on what so many women go through when they choose to leave… What we’re seeing is one of the most powerful, one of the richest women in the world, unable to get her ex to stop texting her, to stop chasing after her, to stop harassing her.”

The drama between the two celebs unfolded when West accused Kardashian of preventing him from bringing their four children to Sunday Service. The rapper made the allegation days after his ex-wife was declared “legally single” in court and later went official with Pete Davidson.
