Blackberry Is Giving Up On The Smartphone Market

Blackberry, once a big time smartphone manufacturer calls quits on the smartphone market to concentrate on other business models after a long time of being silent.

It has been reported that since 2009 its market share had fallen from 20% to 1% and now Blackberry is soon coming back just not with Smart phones but with driving car software so as to compete with the likes of Apple down the same line.

Besides that we should be aware that Blackberry owns QNX Operating System which Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system runs on, as well as General Motors’ new On star system and the Audit virtual cockpit as it also supports Apple’s Car Play.

Grant Courville, the senior director of product management at QNX says Blackberry QNX is now running in more than 60 million vehicles as of the end of 2014, with over 40 automakers relying on the software platform and Colin Bird, senior analyst of automotive technology at IHS Markit, told Business Insider that Blackberry QNX is currently the leader in the connected car space, which includes infotainment, navigation and rear-seat entertainment..

Blackberry is now modifying its QNX platform so it can also run self driving car tech. This idea will help automakers a secure platform to run their self driving car software.
