Gen Kale Kayihura Granted Bail

The former Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura, who has been locked up for a while now has been granted bail by the General Court Martial.

According to reports, the court was convinced by the arguments presented by Gen Kayihura’s lawyers, that he is a serving soldier of old age, requires urgent medical attention and has presented substantial sureties.

The chairman of the court, Lt Gen Andrew Gutti has however, restricted him from traveling beyond areas of Kampala and Wakiso districts. He’s also required to report to the court every Monday of every month.

The former IGP is also not supposed to travel abroad without the permission of court and the army since he is still a serving soldier.

Relatives, supporters and sympathisers were present at the court premises and were seen celebrating after Kale was offered bail.

Gen Kayihura is charged with aiding and abetting the kidnapping by commission, repatriating Rwandan exile and refugees and Ugandan citizens to Rwanda between 2012 and 2016.

He was also accused of failing to protect war material by issuing arms to unauthorised persons including Boda Boda 2010 members led by jailed Abdallah Kitatta between 2010 and 2018.
