Makerere Gets New Vice Chancellor

After 3 months of hectic search, the university finally concluded the appointment of a vice chancellor. Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe is to replace the current vice Ddumba Ssentamu.

Elsewhere: Congo independence celebrations on hold

Barnabas championed a race that included former presidential candidate Prof. Vensius Baryamureeba and Prof. Edward Kasujja Kirumira. In a vote that was settled among University council chaired by Eng. Dr. Charles Wana-Etyem. Prof. Nawangwe led with the majority 16 followed by Prof. Baryamureeba with 4 and Prof. Kirumira with 2.

After the vote, the council sent only Prof. Nawangwe’s name to the  chancellor Ezra Suruma who appointed him the position in accordance to the University and other tertiary institutions act.
