On Thursday the 29th of June, Kyadondo east was taken by storm as it welcomed the rise of the new leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine. Bobi Wine went up against formidable foes in a battle where he faced the ruling party NRM along with the unwavering opposition led by FDC as an independent candidate.

In a by-election where the numbers appeared to be in favor of Bobi despite playing in the backyard of NRM’s Sitenda Ssebalu, the outgoing FDC’s Apollo Kantinti and the independent Muwada Nkunyinji. Robert didn’t disappoint and emerged the winner.

Bobi Wine is indeed a success story for many, but the question many should ask is how did a self-proclaimed ghetto president rise to the ranks of legitimate leadership in Uganda?

Lucky for you Spur Magazine has you covered on that and the answer is that it’s none other than a woman only that this time it’s not Barbie Kyagulanyi. The woman behind the success of Bobi Wine is a well-known public relations specialist Anne Whitehead.

Ann helped Bobi to draw up political strategies and indeed rebranded the singer’s image from being a ghetto musician to being a cutting-edge politician with the heart of the people. For far too long Ugandans have got tired of Kiiza Besigye and Erias Lukwago taking headlines of the opposition the new image Bobi represents is that freedom and politics are the ventures of a youth even a Ghetto Youth.

Ann was in charge of running the WhatsApp group KYADONDO EAST WATCH. For those unfamiliar with the work of Ann Whitehead let’s say it’s not the first time she’s run an operation in Uganda. Operations ranging from writing the booklets that were distributed in the 2016 second presidential debate to working with institutions like Blu Flamingo, Uganda Women’s CANCER Support Organization, Inter-religious Council of Uganda.

She currently owns a PR company called Whitehead Communications with operations covering Rwanda, Uganda and Canada with clients like our very own local celebs Navio, Iryn Namubiru and GNL Zamba. Ann has worked with Bobi Wine since 2014 although the pair met in 2010 as he was working on a track with Navio titled ‘Number One’ .
