Lionel Messi has set another milestone record with Barcelona after scoring a brace in their 5-0 win over Leganes in the Copa del Rey. The 32-year-old is the first player in Spanish football to record 500 wins and score 500 domestic goals which looks unbeatable in the modern era.
Lionel Messi bagged a brace as Antoine Griezmann, Clement Lenglet and Arthur Melo were on target as La Blaugrana saw off their opponents to qualify for the quarter-finals. The Argentine captain is now ranked above his former Barca teammates Xavi Hernandez who has 476 wins and Andres Iniesta with 459 wins.
According to Barcelona’s website, it took 710 games for Messi to reach that mark after his team bounced back from a 2-0 defeat to Valencia in La Liga over the weekend. Despite the convincing win, new manager Quique Setien was not satisfied with his team’s performance on the night.
“We did a lot of things well but I am not completely happy because we also lost control of the game in the latter stages of the first half.”
