The Grudge Returns In 2020 With Terrifying Trailer

Classic and popular Japanese cult horror, The Grudge is making a return come 2020 in early January and will make its debut in North America. The film is directed by Nicolas Pesce and produced by Sam Raimi which marks the return of the series.

The Grudge came to limelight for the first time in America in 2004 with original Ju-On director Takashi Shimizu and  Sarah Michelle Gellar starring as the lead actress. It was a massive success grossing $100 million in the US on a $10 million budget.

Since then, the Grudge has had other sequels follow though they didn’t get as much success as the earlier one did. However, we now get to see the horror come to light again as a reboot in 2020 next January.

Although serving as a reboot, The Grudge takes place during the same timeline as the 2004 film that starred Buffy The Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar.

This time around, Andrea Riseborough (Birdman) and John Cho (Harold & Kumar) share co-starring cred as the two leads at the center of the plot. Riseborough plays a detective investigating a series of deaths at the infamous house, now located in the United States as opposed to Japan in the original films, meanwhile Cho plays a real estate agent trying to sell the cursed crib.

Both come into direct contact with the murderous spirits, and thus the tale kicks off once again. Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert, producers from the original two films, join Takashige Ichise once again to handle production this time around, with newcomer Nicolas Pesce on board to direct and write the film.

The Grudge 2020 will continue the rating tradition that began with the third entry; it has earned an R rating, which is encouraging for gore-hounds.
