Sheebah Takes Home Best Female Artist of the Year Award at HiPipo Music Awards

Sheebah Karungi has done it again and this time around she has ripped big from the HiPipo Awards 2020 after winning the Best Female Artist of the Year accolade for the song “Sweet Sensation.”

Sheebah was able to take the award home after going against tough competition within the category while facing other worthy contenders like Vinka, Spice Diana to mention but a few.

The 2020 HiPipo Awards also had other nominated Ugandan artists which included Eddy Kenzo, John Blaq, Spice Diana and Fik Fameica who were among the most nominated artists this year.

In 2018, Sheebah won 4 accolades at the 7th edition of the awards, making her one of the few artists to win many awards in just one night in that year, including the Best Female Artist of the Year award and Video of the Year for the song “Siri Zari” back in 2016.

The 9th annual HiPipo Music Awards were originally scheduled for 14th March 2020 at Victoria Hall of Kampala Serena Hotel but were later postponed due to unexpected circumstances and moved to a later date on 29 May 2020 in response to government guidelines concerning the coronavirus pandemic.

Voting began in January through the official HiPipo Facebook page with people voting online for their favourite music artists. The awards this time around also had a strong focus on Africa with nominees coming from over 20 sub-Saharan and North Africa countries.

This year has been a little tough for Sheebah especially after her and her previous manager Jeff Kiwa had a fallout, with reports from different sources stating that the two weren’t seeing eye to eye anymore. As of now, all we know is that Karungi is no longer part of TNS (Team No Sleep) after the bitter split and we are yet to confirm the reports.

Despite the odds, Sheebah has managed to rise to the top and that’s some good news right there. Meanwhile, after the nominations had been done, Eddy Kenzo was the one leading in the nomination list with 10 nods, closely followed by Sheebah, John Blaq, Spice Diana and Fik Fameica.

On the other hand, Eddy Kenzo was able to win Africa’s Number 1 award under the Africa category and also the Artist of the Year Award under the Ugandan one too.

Spurzine congratulates Sheebah Karungi for winning the Best Female Artist of the Year accolade including all the other winners at the HiPipo Music Awards 2020.
