Burna Boy Wins Gold Plaque for Hit Single

Damini Ogulu, professionally known as Burna Boy has taken Africa by storm and with the release of his African Giant album last year, he has continued to receive more recognition for his music across the continent.

Burna Boy is known by some as the reigning king of African music due to his artistic videos and talent as a musician. On March 8 2020, the Nigerian Superstar accepted a Gold Plaque for his 2018 single, On The Low.

A Gold plaque is usually handed to an artist whose single has been streamed 15 million times which makes Burna Boy’s On The Low befitting for the award.

Burna Boy took to Instagram to celebrate the win, “On the low went Gold in France ? Without any radio push or promo. Love every single one of you that streamed it over 15m times,” the Nigerian star wrote.

The singer was accompanied by his manager, Bose Ogulu, better known as Mama Burna. On The Low was released on Nov. 16 2018 as the second single off Burna’s 7th studio album, African Giant.

Burna Boy wins gold plaque in France for hit single On The Low

Burna has quickly risen through the ranks as one of the best exports out of Africa and his music has continued to gain him more fans. He has so far released over 10 music videos, performed in over 200 countries around the globe and his songs have been streamed 600 million times.

The singer and songwriter rose to prominence in 2012 after releasing “Like to Party”, the lead single from his debut studio album L.I.F.E (2013). He then later in 2017, signed with Bad Habit/Atlantic Records in the United States and Warner Music Group internationally giving him a much needed boost to sale his music.

In 2019, he won Best International Act at the 2019 BET Awards, and was announced as Apple Music’s Up Next artist. His African Giant also won Album of the Year at the 2019 All Africa Music Awards, and was nominated for Best World Music Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.

Burna Boy has definitely left a mark on the music industry and if you didn’t know, Barack Obama considered his Anybody song as one of his favorite tracks in 2019.
