Last night was full of mixed emotions at the Santiago Bernabeu. At one point the Madrid fans were filled with joy as the possibility of finishing on top of Group F was likely as they took the lead with a brace from the french man Karim Benzema.
Their joy was short lived as Dortmund came from behind and equate the score with goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and a spectacular equalizer from Marco Reus two minutes from time.
Madrid finished second in Group F which will leave them with a tough last 16 opponent as according to ESPNFC Zinedine Zidane spotted Juventus being the worst draw to land ( Sorry he didn’t even recognize Arsenal nor Leicester).
But all wasn’t bad as Madrid saw themselves extend the unbeaten record in all competitions to 34 games. Equaling their very own club record but all eyes shall turn to Saturday to see Zidane exceed as they go against Deportivo La Coruna at the Bernabeu.
Karim Benzema also had a reason to smile as he became the 6th player to score 50 Champions League goals joining the likes of Lionel Messi, Ruud Van Nistelroy, Cristiano Ronaldo & Raul.
Talking about goals, Dortmund too had more to celebrate than just a top finish in Group F and for the second time above Madrid in 5 years. Dortmund curved their name in history for the most goals scored by any team in the group stage of the Tournament history. The team has scored 21 goals in the campaign.
