India and Uganda have agreed to grow further together and reach new heights in the future according to Vice President Mohammed Hamid Ansari, on Wednesday during his visit to Uganda.
Mr. Ansari who is on the second leg of his sub Saharan Africa visit came to Uganda from Rwanda to commemorate Mahatma Ghandi and meet with Ugandan officials.
He is here on a three-day official visit at the invitation of the Ugandan government. On Wednesday he held talks with President Yoweri Museveni and also attended a business forum.
“We both have agreed to expand cooperation in energy sector and also in training of personnel for space programmes and peaceful uses of atomic energy,” said the Vice President.

“I came away from that meeting with a reinforced confidence in the desire of the two governments to continue to engage with each other and a send a powerful message to the business communities in both of our countries that here are the business opportunities which have to be availed of,” he said.
India and Uganda are similar in a way and usually combat the same diseases, health and population challenges. That is why India supports some development projects in Uganda such as a tele-medical center at Mulago referral hospital that is connected to 11 hospitals in India.
“I am told that every month, more than 70 Ugandan businessmen travel to India to explore business opportunities with India. It is a matter of satisfaction that India is one of the largest trade partners of Uganda but at US$ 615 million (shs2.3 trillion), our bilateral trade is yet to reach its true potential,”he added.
Ansari said that India has over the past few years become one of the largest investors and trading partners of Uganda which is possible due to the support of the Ugandan Government.
He encouraged more investment in the minerals, agriculture and petroleum and appreciated the Indian entrepreneurs doing business in Uganda.
