In October, two girls of ages 16 and 17 were arrested after they were reported kissing and hugging on the roof of a house in Marrakech. The girls were detained for a week before they were released on bail.
On Friday the 9th of December, a judge decided to acquit the girls of the crime they had committed on grounds that they were not sanctioned under article 489 0f the penal code that criminalize’s sexual deviancy between two people of the same gender.
The girls were released back to their families. According to the penal code, if found guilty these girls could have been jailed up to 3 years.
