President Museveni has directed his wife, Janet Museveni who is also the Education minister to re-appoint Prof Waswa Balunywa as the principal of Makerere University Business School (MUBS).
Some are claiming it’s just a power play move but according to reports, the directive came in a day after Prof Moses Muhwezi was appointed as the acting principal of MUBS.
Prof Balunywa, who had been a principal of MUBS since 2003 was to step down after his contract expired on May 27 meaning an acting principal had to be put in place to take over the position.
Prof Muhwezi was endorsed by the MUBS council during an emergency meeting held yesterday at the university campus in Nakawa according to the university council secretary, Francis Yosa but on the same day, the president sent in another letter proposing another term for Waswa.
“Professor Balunywa has always been on the liberation side of ideology in addition to being an active administrator. His institution has been free of strikes. I have never found him averse to advise the times I have interacted with him. Such a person is always good to work with,” Museveni stated.
However, this move could brew up a war between two sides having different opinions over the re-appointment saga which goes against Section 12 of the Pension Act Cap 286.
