The Xbox Series S could be launched early August based off a leaked Microsoft document that revealed the company’s plans to launch their second next-gen console.
According to the leaked documents, Microsoft is planning on revealing its Xbox Series S in August suggesting that the month could be the tech giants target for launch.
Eurogamer reports that Microsoft had originally planned to unveil the console, codenamed “Lockhart,” in June but it, later on, changed its plans to August with confirmation that the console will be named the Xbox Series S as early reports had suggested.
Further reports also state that Microsoft has been working on its second next-gen console that hopes to be cheaper and also powerful for months. The leaked document also revealed more information about the company’s Xbox Series X devkit, codenamed “Dante,” which allows game developers to enable a special Lockhart mode offering the console more performance.
The leaked Microsoft document hints August as the launch month for the Xbox Series S
According to reports by the Verge, the Lockhart is expected to have the same CPU speed as the Series X, including 7.5GB of usable RAM, and around 4 teraflops of GPU performance at the player’s disposal.
Meanwhile, the Series X is expected to have 13.5GB of usable RAM, plus 12 teraflops of GPU performance underneath its hood which is higher than the Lockhart in comparison.

If the leaked documents are true, then we expect Microsoft to drop the news on the second next-gen console by August including its pricing alongside the Series X. The second console is meant to be the more affordable option, with 1080p and 1440p resolutions in mind. It’s reasonable to assume that the pricing for the Lockhart will be somehow or heavily tied to the Xbox All Access subscription.
The Xbox All Access is currently priced at $19.99 (UGX 74,843.22) for an Xbox One S All Digital Edition subscription that includes the Game Pass Ultimate (Xbox Live and Xbox Game Pass). Microsoft is also bundling its Project xCloud game streaming technology into the Game Pass later this year, which means a subscription next-gen console could be appealing to those who don’t need the more powerful option.
