Google is on a race to solve Africa’s slow internet speed problems using its new upcoming Go App intended for users having poor connectivity and facing high data costs.
The Google Go app will help reduce the amount of data needed to display search results over the web by 40% and at the same time allow the user to access previous searches offline.
So, if you’re one of those chaps complaining about data expenses and how your village doesn’t have 2G network connection. Your lies are soon coming to an end.
According to Google’s blog post apart from reduced data usage, the Google Go app will also include a Voice search feature which will work better on slow connections such as the 2G networks.

The Go app is a sign of Google’s continued efforts to try and expand Internet reach into the sub Saharan Africa. Facebook is also another big player in this initiative as it has done the same with several initiatives to bring low-cost and free broadband to hard-to-reach areas.

Last year, the tech giant rolled out an online digital skills platform called Digital Skills for Africa with a goal to teach 10 million people across Africa online skills over the next five years to make them more employable using its platform.
The app is supported on devices running Android v4.3 (Jelly Bean) and above and will be available in 26 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. It will also be pre-installed on all Android Oreo (Go edition) devices, which will be available in stores soon.
