Saudi Arabia Offers Qatar a Two Day Extension

Ten days ago Saudi and her three allies gave Qatar a list of 13 demands to comply with before a ten days ultimatum.

Kuwait made a request to the allied countries to grant an extension of 48 hours for Doha to comply with their 13 demands per Sunday’s deadline in a joint statement on Saudi State news SPA.

Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahamad Al Jaber Al-Sabah asked Saudi and the three allies boycotting Qatar to grant an extension.

Kuwait has been acting as the mediator after Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt severed their diplomatic and travel ties with Doha.

Qatar’s Foreign minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahmad al-Thani said the stiff demands that included the closing of Qatar based al Jazeera TV and ejecting Turkish troops based there.

Made knowing Qatar was going to reject these demands regardless of the other listed demands.

Further sanctions have been promised over Qatar if the 13 demands presented to Doha through Kuwait are not met ten days ago.

Foreign ministers of the boycotting countries are scheduled to meet in Cairo on Wednesday to discuss further on Qatar without disclosing more details.

Qatar is being accused by the allied countries of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates and Egypt for supporting terrorism and ties with Iran a regional foe.

Furthermore, commercial banks in the region believe Saudi, Emirati and Bahraini banks might receive official guidelines to pull deposits and interbank loans from Qatar.

The US state department which is also an ally to the boycotting countries endorsed Kuwait to be the mediator and called for restraint from both sides, according to Reuters.
