WhatsApp is taking a step further when it comes to the status-sharing feature, adding some cool features that many are going to love when it comes to sharing status updates.
WhatsApp is making a few cool changes to the status feature adding more ways for people to connect with their loved ones. According to WABetaInfo, one of the expected key features in the upcoming update is the ability to mention or tag contacts in status updates.
The feature was first seen in March but is now being rolled out to some beta users on Android and will be available to more users worldwide This feature, first seen in March, is now rolling out to some beta users on Android. Soon, it will be available to more users worldwide.
“In the article about the WhatsApp beta for the Android 2.24.6.19 update, we announced that WhatsApp was working on a feature to mention contacts in status updates. This feature allows users to directly involve specific contacts in their status updates by notifying them through a mention”, the WhatsApp blog read.
The new status feature gives you the option to mention other users and tag them in the status updates. It is similar to tagging friends in posts just like in other social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook. To use the feature, one has to click the ‘@’ button that now shows up next to the caption bar when sharing something.
Once you add a mention, the contact tagged will get an instant notification letting them know they have been tagged in something sweet and awesome. However, unlike the other platforms, the original poster’s name remains hidden adding a layer of privacy.
WhatsApp Status Feature to Allow Tagging Other Users’ In Status Updates
The latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.20.3 update is now available on the Google Play Store for download for those who wish to test out the new feature that allows you to mention contacts in status updates.
As noted in the screenshot above, some beta testers can explore a feature that allows them to mention specific contacts when sharing status updates. To mention a contact, eligible users will find a button located within the caption bar when attempting to share photos and videos via status updates.
Another cool thing about the new status feature is that only the mentioned contact will receive the notification and the message in their chat, which ensures that the interaction remains confidential between the two of you since the mention is not visible to anyone else who views the status. This means users can target specific people in their status updates without sharing this information with their broader audience.
One other thing to note is that the mentioned contacts will always receive the status update regardless of the sender’s privacy settings. Even if the mentioned contact is excluded from viewing other status updates due to specific privacy settings, they will still be able to view the status update in which they were mentioned.
Although WhatsApp has not confirmed an official release date for the Status update mentions, it is anticipated to be available shortly after the beta testing phase.
