Game of Thrones actor Hafthor Bjornsson, known for his famous role as Ser Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane in the HBO series, broke the deadlifting record at his gym while in Iceland his native homeland.
Hafthor Bjornsson left an impression on his home fans at a community gym when he lifted a 501kg barbell for two seconds, before dropping it and roaring in delight according to a report by BBC.
It’s quite rare but there those few actors or actresses that actually do imaginable things such as the one Bjornsson did. The same can be said for Arnold Schwarzenegger, who back in the day was a weight lifter too.
The Game of Thrones actor was caught on camera, with the event streamed on ESPN and filmed for Bjornsson’s YouTube channel.
“I’m extremely proud, you know. I’m extremely happy.” – Said Bjornsson, in a behind the scenes video posted on YouTube.
Hafthor Bjornsson, 31, is a three-time defending champion of Europe’s Strongest Man event, a competition he won in 2018. He is also 2.05m tall (6ft 9in). Talk about being a giant.
Hafthor Bjornsson was extremely happy about beating the world record despite many not believing in him
“It’s great – there’s nothing better than proving people wrong. So many people didn’t believe in me, so many people that said, ‘501kg is never going to go up’… But I also had a lot of support.”
He added: “I feel healthy, I feel good. I’m just absolutely speechless, even though I’m talking a lot now. But I’m excited, super excited – this is huge for me.”
The record was previously held by Eddie Hall, a British man who in 2016 became the first man to lift 500 kg.
